YOU ARE PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN WHEN

You call a bathing suit a "swimming costume".

You call a traffic light a "robot".

You call an elevator a "lift"

You call a hood a "bonnet"

You call a trunk a "boot"

You call a pickup truck a "bakkie"

You call a Barbeque a "Braai"

The employees dance in front of the building to show how unhappy they are.

The SABC advertises and shows highlights of the programme you just finished watching.

You get cold easily. Anything below 16 degrees Celsius is Arctic weather.

You know what Rooibos Tea is, even if you've never had any.

You can sing your national anthem in four languages, and you have no idea what it means in any of them.

You know someone who knows someone who has met Nelson Mandela.

You go to braais regularly, where you eat boerewors and swim, sometimes simultaneously.

You produce a R100 note instead of your driver's licence when stopped by a traffic officer.

You can do your monthly shopping on the pavement.

You have to hire a security guard whenever you park your car.

You know a taxi can move twice its certified number of people in one trip.

You travel 100's of kilometres to see snow.

You know the rules of Rugby better than any referee!

More people vote in a local reality TV show than in a local election.

People have the most wonderful names: Christmas, Goodwill, Pretty, Wednesday, Blessing, Brilliant, Gift, Precious, Innocence and Given, Patience, Portion, Coronation.

"Now now" or "just now" can mean anything from a minute to a month.

You continue to wait after a traffic light has turned to green to make way for taxis travelling in the opposite direction.

Travelling at 120 km/h you're the slowest vehicle on the highway/freeway.

A bullet train is being introduced, but we can't fix potholes.

The last time you visited the coast you paid more in speeding fines and toll fees than you did for the entire holiday.

You have to prove that you don't need a loan to get one.

Prisoners go on strike.

You don't stop at a red traffic light, in case somebody hijacks your car.

Rwandan refugees start leaving the country because the crime rate is too high.

You consider a high crime rate as normal.

4th

We decided at the last minute to meet our friends, Max and Amy in TN for the weekend of the 4th.
It was the perfect half way point meeting place.
Nashville is a fun city.

Now SHE'S got talent...

This is one very talented lady - and I love to see people like this being discovered for their true talent. I'd buy a CD and listen to her voice any day. Be sure to press play and listen. I especially love Simon's reaction.   I cry at most things and this song is no exception. It definitely brings happy tears to my eyes!

"American Idol" isn't the only launching pad for aspiring singers. Across the pond, "Britain's Got Talent" scored a huge boost in the Buzz after an unassuming contestant gave an amazing performance.

Susan Boyle (remember that name) became a Web phenomenon after singing "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables. The performance brought the audience to its feet and left the judges (including Simon Cowell) either speechless or in tears.

Before going on stage, Ms. Boyle admitted some self-deprecating facts about herself (she's never been kissed and lives alone with her cat, Pebbles). For those reasons and more, audiences were expecting the female William Hung. They were wrong.

Lookups on the sudden star posted huge gains. A no-name just the other day, Ms. Boyle quickly surged into our top 5,000 overall searches. Blogs and gossip rags went wild. The Mirror jumped on the story, reporting that while Ms. Boyle thought she "looked like a garage" on TV, she received a standing ovation when she showed up at her local church.

Other sources write that as a child, Ms. Boyle was the target of bullies because of a disability. But, with her newfound fame, she is getting the last laugh. In fact, she's already meeting with officials from Mr. Cowell's Sony BMG label. This may have been the first you've heard of her, but it certainly won't be the last. You can watch her performance below...

Setting goals are important, right???

This is my new goal.
To try each of these R.i.t.t.e.r .S.p.o.r.t.s chocolate bars.
I did not even know half these flavors existed.
I feel like a whole new world has been opened up to me.

Kim R.  - I think you may be the only one who would consider taking on this goal with me ;-)

WHITE Eggs

In SA all the eggs are brown.   I don't think I ever saw white eggs... unless it was EASTER.  These are the only white eggs I ever knew -
until I moved to the US.

These eggs are candy coated.  You lick the candy off until you find delicious chocolate coating the inside of the egg.
There is no way to eat these eggs gracefully :-)
But they are so tasty!

A very nice man...

We were recently at the mall returning something at a kiosk. I had 'store' credit so I had to buy from that particular kiosk.   Well, I was having a hard time finding anything I wanted and was being a little impatient with the workers because I just wanted my money back.   Andy reminded me to be nice :-) I was a little nicer and settled on something and kept the remaining store credit for a future purchase.  It was almost time for the mall to close by the time I found anything and I still had other stores I wanted to look in. So, I left to go do a little more shopping and Andy made the exchange for me.
Andy made the exchange and met me in another store.  He then tells me that the ladies at the kiosk wanted to let him know that they (clearly they had discussed it, come to a conclusion and she was now the spokesman for the two)  :-) thought that he was a very nice man and that he was very patient.  She said that most husbands would have been impatient hurrying their wives along and ready to leave. But Andy stood patiently as I walked around the booth multiple times look for the perfect item.

They were right.  Andy is a 'VERY NICE MAN' :-)
And I am a very lucky wife!
